Please take notice of the following in regard to 2011 ALS grant requests.
 
ALS GRANT REQUEST GUIDELINES
  The Foundation now accepts budgeted indirect costs of up to 10%.
Areas of Interest
Jean Pape Adams was interested in supporting charitable organizations actively engaged in discovering the causes of and finding a cure for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
What the Foundation funds
The Foundation funds research that is innovative and aggressive. We encourage partnerships and collaborative efforts in proposing initiatives to fill gaps not currently being investigated and that may involve novel approaches. The research must be of high scientific merit in discovering the causes or finding a cure for ALS.
What the Foundation does not fund
Support groups, education, medical equipment or capital projects.

Review process
Applications are reviewed by an Advisory Committee comprised of scientific researchers, neurologists and others who have had close relationships with friends and family members afflicted with ALS. The Advisory Committee makes funding recommendations to the Trustees who make the final funding decisions.

Who may apply
Organizations that are exempt from federal income taxes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, contributions to which are deductible under Section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code. The organizations should qualify as public charities under Section 509(a)(1) or Section 509(a)(2) of the Internal Revenue Code.
Application procedure
  The Foundation will consider only one grant request per year per organization.
Submit hard copies of the following:
1. An Abstract and Project Description which includes the following: goals, background, specific aims, experimental methods, budget, and a statement as to how the project relates to the Foundation's mission. The total number of pages should not exceed seven, including budget. The Abstract and Project Description must also be submitted electronically.
2. A lay summary of the project that shall not exceed two pages. Must also be submitted electronically.
3. A copy of the sponsoring institution's/organization’s IRS determination letter granting tax-exempt status.
4. A current curriculum vitae (CV) using the NIH format of principal investigators with list of recent publications. This should also be submitted electronically.
5. All external sources of funding for the PI and Co-Investigators. This should also be submitted electronically.
6. Most recent Annual Report of the sponsoring institution/organization.
7. A list of the Board of Directors/Trustees of the sponsoring institution/organization.

Applicants who received Foundation grants for research in 2010 or 2011 need not resubmit numbers 3, 4, 6 and/or 7.

The Foundation has a policy regarding changes to the principal investigator(s) assigned to manage a project funded by the Foundation. Any organization interested in receiving a copy of this policy should request a copy by e-mail from the Foundation.

Time frame
  1. The Foundation awards grants once a year. Funding is for the following calendar year.
2. Proposal deadline is August 15, 2011. Proposals are reviewed in November and written notification and distributions of awards will be made prior to the end of December 2011.
3. All grantees must submit a Grant Evaluation Report ("GER") within 30 days of the completion of research funded for 2012, but no later than January 31, 2013. The grant award letter may require more frequent reports.
4. Failure to submit the required reports timely may jeopardize future grant requests.
